As usage of mobile networks continues to grow rapidly, managing control traffic is becoming a major challenge. With ubiquitous access to personal multimedia devices, subscribers are driving the next generation of network capabilities, resulting in a huge rise in control traffic. The deployment of many 4G network elements and 5G network functions creates a complicated control topology and an inefficient and unpredictable signaling control plane. This in turn degrades performance and quality of experience for subscribers, can cause outages, and increases the operations and maintenance costs for the service provider.
