ETSI Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) standards allow multiple architectural options related to the flow of resource requests among NFV Orchestrators (NFVOs), Virtual Network Functions Managers (VNFMs), and Virtualized Infrastructure Managers (VIMs): direct and indirect mode. This paper analyzes the pros and cons of these options with respect to modularity, troubleshooting, and the impact of system evolution.
