The next-generation industrial-grade private wireless networks will be based on 3GPP wireless technologies that have previously been used in public mobile networks, specifically 4.9G/LTE and 5G (in the future). In this white paper, we take an in-depth look at this technological transition and lay out what enterprises need to carry it out. We start with a comparison of 4.9G/LTE to the legacy systems and show why enterprises need to move to it now. We then look at the architectural options available, how to deploy and operate a private wireless network, and then give an overview of the building blocks of a solution and how to anticipate and plan for a smooth transition to 5G.
